OMRCC Projects
The OMRCC has undertaken several activities that contribute to our overall objectives. Our activities
are focused on marine conservation and the promotion of fisherfolk livelihoods. To carry these out,
we have had to raise funds from various donors. All members of the OMRCC are encouraged to raise
resources to promote the collective's activities.
- The Arghyam Foundation supported ATREE to produce booklets
on Marine Conservation Legislations in Orissa in Oriya and English
Hoardings that contained pictorial depictions of the fishing
regulations were erected in the key villages close to the mass nesting beaches. See hoardings
(link to page showing PDFs on hoardings and photographs)
- The Ford Foundation, through the Covenant Centre for Development,
currently supports some of the activities of the OMRCC. The United Artists Association
, a member of the OMRCC, manages the project.
The broad objectives of this project are;
- To develop collaborative programmes for community-based fisheries management in coastal Orissa through the OMRCC.
- To advocate for socially and ecologically appropriate coastal development in Orissa through the OMRCC.
- To create awareness on marine conservation and sustainable fisheries management practices among the fishing communities.
- To facilitate an attitudinal change towards conservation among traditional marine fishers by community organization around supplementary livelihood mechanisms through micro-enterprise activities in demonstration villages.
